Wednesday,
January 3, 2007 - Many
legislators never get a bill they sponsor signed into law
during their two year term of office. State Rep.
Uecker hits a double his first term with two bills
signed by the Governor this week. In addition to HB 251 the State’s Energy Policy, House Bill 443
known as the Ohio Department of Natural Resources
Omnibus bill was also signed by outgoing Governor
Taft. Provisions included in HB 443 include
measures that will ensure that the day-to-day
operations and contract negotiations of ODNR run
more efficiently by eliminating problems currently
encountered by the department. House Bill 443 also
addresses the mining of coal and other industrial
minerals, such as sand, gravel, clay and recycled
concrete in Ohio. Specifically, the safety and
regulation laws of mining, as well as safety
training, were replaced with standards that are
more comprehensive and made major improvements to
the environmental protection of coal mining in
Ohio and Ohio’s coal mining programs. “Ohio’s
natural resources are a source of economic
strength and beauty to be preserved for the
enjoyment of future generations,” said Uecker.
“This legislation ensures that Ohio’s landscape
remains appealing and productive for years to
come.”

Wednesday,
January 3, 2007 -One of Gov.
Bob Taft’s last acts as governor was to sign House
Bill 521, the State’s Energy Efficiency Policy
sponsored by State Rep Joe Uecker. The measure
institutes public policy that will save both
fiscal and substantive resources of the state well
into the future. House Bill 251 requires
efficient energy use at all state facilities,
including colleges and universities and would also
give preference for purchasing “energy star”
products that meet federal energy guidelines. It
will also encourage development of energy
efficiency resources through the Department of
Development.
Rep. Uecker,
standing to Taft’s right is surrounded by staff
members of the Ohio House of Representatives as
well as Department of Administrative Services and
Department of Development who all played a part in
the development of the energy policy. |
